Minnesota Education Equity Partnership (MnEEP) is pleased to announce the addition of Aara Johnson to our dedicated staff. Aara will lead our Multilingual Learners Network, aimed at achieving equitable educational outcomes for E-12 students who are English language learners. In addition, Aara will serve as our Program Associate for Increasing Teachers of Color and American Indian Teachers.
Most recently, Aara served as Project Associate for our English Learners project—in powerful collaboration with the Coalition for Asian American Leadership (CAAL)— to help shape the state of Minnesota’s implementation plan of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Aara received her Master’s degree from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota and contributed research and policy work to the Augsburg College East African Student to Teacher (EAST) program as their Policy Fellow. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and draws from her Filipino and American heritage to inspire her race equity work.
Aara will direct MnEEP’s efforts to explore ongoing collaborative work with CAAL that can support and hold accountable Minnesota’s education systems in the implementation of the 2014 nation-leading Minnesota Learning English for Academic Proficiency (LEAPS) Act and the ESSA law that places EL students at the center for federal accountability.
